Deacon George Toombs was born in Camilla, Georgia on October 4, 1938 to the late Joseph E. and Arthrie Mae Toombs. He attended Savannah State College after graduating from high school. However, his studies were interrupted by being drafted to serve his Country in the United States Army.

He married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Ruth Ellis on April 23, 1961 at a church near Savannah State College campus before leaving for service.

They relocated to Rahway and Roselle, NJ. They later purchased a home in Lakewood, New Jersey after receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army. Further, he received his degree in Health and Physical Education from Trenton State College (now University) in Trenton, NJ.

Deacon Toombs embarked upon his initial career in the workforce at the Budget Finance Company. Subsequently, he was employed by R.T.French Company as a Sales Representative. He was later employed by General Motors Incorporated as a Supervisor until retirement from this company.

He began his second career as a Health and Physical Education Instructor in the Jackson, NJ School System after retiring from General Motors Incorporated. He was dedicated and always available to encourage and support his students. He had a great love for his work. His second retirement was on January 1, 2015 from the Jackson School System.

He and his family joined the Macedonia Baptist Church in May, 1970 after relocating to Lakewood, NJ. Shortly thereafter, he became a Church Trustee and served in the Men's choir. Rev. Albert C. Clayton ordained him to the Diaconate in October, 1991 because of his spiritual growth and maturity. He was appointed as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry by Rev. Dr. Edward D. Harper and served faithfully in this position for several years. He was a devoted and committed Servant of the Lord until he was called from earth to his heavenly reward.

Deacon Toombs was a very dedicated worker in the church wherever needed and served in various ministries such as Sunday School Teacher, Yoke Ministry, Budget Committee, Christian Education Ministry, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach Ministry, Macedonia Family Life Community Complex Incorporated (501c3 nonprofit organization) and a faithful attendee of Wednesday night prayer meeting and bible study.

He leaves to cherish wonderful memories, his loving wife, Marilyn Ruth Toombs, of 55 years; his mother, Arthrie Mae Toombs; two sons, Rommel Dmitri Toombs, Sr. and Stirling Bouvia Toombs; six grandchildren, Rommel Dmitri, Jr., Nia Aviella, Gabriel Elijah, Micah Ananias, Makennah Ruth and Caleb Asher Toombs; one brother, Reuben (Jean) Toombs and a devoted brother-in-law, Charlie F. Ellis.

He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, friends, the Macedonia Church family and the Christian Community at large.

John 3:16
