Mr. Alvin Lewis Martin was the son of the late French and Laura Lee (McCarroll) Martin. He was born on July 6, 1952 and was the third of five children. Following an extended illness, he gracefully responded to God’s call and entered eternal life to join his parents, and two brothers (Emanuel and William) during the evening of Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Alvin accepted Christ at an early age. He received his early education from Marengo County Training School in Thomaston, Alabama. He later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for more than thirty years as a brick layer for multiple construction companies throughout Cleveland and the surrounding areas. He would often point out numerous homes throughout the city where his talent was on display.

He leaves to cherish his memories six children: sons- Kevin Martin and Derryl Jones and daughter- Yatiki Jones, mother, Linda Williams; very special friend Susie Bell , children- Patricia Bell and Anthony Bell and a special young man whom he loved as a son, Bob Moore; devoted sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Martin; and thirteen grandchildren: Tameka (Corey), Tamia, Deshawn, Kevyana, Isiah, Kevin Emanuel, Paris, Antony Jr., Antoinette, Joshua, Breana, Jasmine, Daune, and one great-grand Cali Jones; loving sister- Minerva Martin Burney (Bruce), brother- French “Ross” Martin; beloved Aunt- Rebecca Jackson (Roland) and Uncle Calvin McCarroll (Barbara) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Alvin Lewis Martin was loved and well respected by his family and many friends. We will miss him very much and remember him fondly for his humility, sense of humor, utter love for fishing and soulful cooking skills. He was famous for his pound cakes and fried turkey’s that he graciously prepared during special celebrations.
