What to say.. I (Zoé) fell for Roy when i was 16 years old and he was 18. I was taken with his smile, his eyes, his laugh, his playfulness, his intellect and let's not forget his guitar. Due to our ages, we were not initially at liberty to be together as often as we wished. There were many letters. Like so many other skills, Roy was a gifted wordsmith. His letters were loving and filled with poetry. I was locked in. We married when i was 18. Over the years I was audience to Roy both solo (loved that) and along side the many musicians with whom he played. Roy was an incredible musician. He was able to play so many different types and styles of music. My favorite was when he played baroque, followed by his freestyle blues solos. When he was not writing music, we did have other interests. Roy taught me how to shoot, proper gun safety and we enjoyed target shooting together. We also enjoyed some exciting and very beautiful hikes and backpacking trips. Roy was never lost. He always knew exactly where we were. Roy was a great uncle to my nephews. He loved my family and they loved him. We were together for 18 years and our marriage ended in friendship with no animosity. My family has suffered some losses over the past 10 years, and Roy suffered those losses as well and along side us. It is so difficult to process that he has now left us as well. I know that my loss is shared by so many others who love him too. My family, Roy's brother and sister in-law, Roy's extended family, Roy's friends and fellow musicians. I feel deep sorrow that such a gifted and giving man has gone from us. His absence leaves a gaping hole.
