Sheikh, Husna (Pirzada)
1936-2017

Husna (Pirzada) Sheikh aged 81, passed away on November 19, 2017 at her home in Blacklick, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. We are deeply moved by the outpouring of affection from so many. It is a testament to the life she lived, and the people she loved. She had an intense, unwavering will to give herself to those she loved and she had a gentle soul. She is already terribly missed.

She was born on July 23, 1936 in Old Sukkur, Pakistan, on the banks of the mighty river Indus. Her parents were Zulekha and Abdus Sattar Pirzada. She grew up in Old Sukkur and was the first woman in her extended conservative family to go to college. She went to Kinnaird College in Lahore, Pakistan and graduated B.A. with a major in Geography. There she excelled in sports, winning university medals in the 200 meters race and making lifelong friendships.

She married her husband Farrukh Sheikh in September 1962 who survives her. She is also survived by their three sons: Suleman "Sam" (Sobia), Asim "Sim" (Vicki) and Humayun "Mao". Husna was a beloved grandmother to Joey, Nick and Maria, whom she loved dearly.

Husna had three brothers (late) Abdul Hafeez Pirzada (Sadia), Abdul Ghafoor Pirzada (Zeenat), and Abdul Mujeeb Pirzada (Almas), all of Pakistan. In addition Husna adored her nieces and nephews - Shaziae, Haseeb, Sehr, Sattar, Mueed, Sadaf, Sobia, Khurram, Saman, Sara, Najeeb, Bukht, Tufail, Sohail and Uzma.

Forty four years ago, Husna migrated from Pakistan to Columbus, Ohio with her husband and three small sons, who could not speak English. She worked hard with them and eventually all graduated college. When the sons became teenagers, she reinvented herself by going to Columbus Technical Institute (now Columbus State) and obtained an Associate Degree in Computer Programming and briefly taught there.

Husna’s passions were her faith, her family, her friends who were like family and unquestioning love for her children and grandchildren. She was interested in Indian Classical music. She was an excellent and efficient cook and an expert seamstress.

According to Islamic tradition she was buried the same day she died, immediately following Salat al-Janazah prayers, in the Islamic Cemetery of Columbus, 3880 Sunbury Rd, Columbus, OH 43219. Soyum Koran reading will be held November 21st at Noor Islamic Cultural Center, 5001 Wilcox Rd, Dublin, OH 43016. A memorial service will be held to receive friends and celebrate Husna’s life on Sunday Dec. 17th from 2-4pm at Jefferson Country Club, 7271 Jefferson Meadows Dr, Blacklick, OH 43004.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to:
Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd, Columbus, OH 43215

FROM SHAZIAE, HASEEB, SEHR AND SATTAR PIRZADA

Our dearest Husna Phuppo, lovingly referred to as 'Husso' by our late father, her brother Hafeez who adored her, was a veritable family institution.

We are sad not to be there today to celebrate her remarkable life with all of you, a life which took her from the ancient walled city of Sukhur to burgeoning Columbus.

She was a trailblazer in many ways, always paving the way for the women of our family. A tremendous comfort and support to our father, she was a role model, guide and friend to all four of us. The most valuable lesson we learnt from her was through the example she set for selfless devotion to family. A pillar of strength through our most difficult times, we truly wish she remains a source of inspiration to her beloved family. May the memories of her kind and loving ways give solace to Uncle Farrukh, Sam and Sobia, Sim and Vicky, and Mao, and her grandchildren Joey, Nick and Maria, who were her pride and joy.

We will miss her and her enchanting stories about our grandparents and her early life in Sukhur.

We are grateful to have had her unconditional love and understanding. We will always treasure our many wonderful memories of her, especially those of her leading the singing and celebrations at all of the happy occasions in our lives.

May she rest in eternal peace.

Ameen

Love of music was instilled in Husna by her father who was a reknowned music lover. Husna was a small child when her father would sit her on his lap and teach her the songs he loved.
Husna’s warmth for even remote family and friends was legendary. She often put herself out for others in need even when she was exhausted.
In late Life , Husna suffered monumental responsibility for care of her youngest Son Mao who required total care after his accident 25 years ago. More responsibility was heaped on her when her daughter in law became disabled 15 years ago. She dealt with these adversities with determination and immense grace. Yes, Husna was a very strong person with determination to deal with what fate threw at her.
In Husna we have lost a very unique and lovely person whom I will miss for the rest of my life.
Farrukh
