Pete Farr and cricket at Rolls-Royce

Pete first made himself available for cricket for Valiant in the Rolls-Royce Evening League in 1994, making two appearances on the team sheet that summer. Unfortunately both games were cancelled, one due to rain and the other to a lack of players.

It wasn’t until 2003 that Pete made his debut for Valiant, playing in a winning team in the opening game of the season. He, however, batting at number 4, failed to trouble the scorers, and in fact was out for a golden duck. Fortunately, things got better!

Throughout the rest of the Noughties, Pete made regular appearances for Valiant, playing 7 times in both 2004 and 2005. Keen to support the team, he always played wholeheartedly. His best bowling figures came in 2006 with 4 overs, 2 for 22.

From 2005 to 2007 Pete also played in the MoD Sports Day cricket match, recording the best bowling figures of the day in 2005 of 8 overs, 3 for 19. The following year Pete batted his way to his highest score of 16.

In 2008, Pete made a major batting contribution of 10 not out in a Valiant game, partnering Tim Boursnell to see the team through to victory with an over to spare. He made his highest score for Valiant in 2010 with 11 runs.

Pete’s final game for Valiant was in 2011, scoring 6 runs. Subsequent to that, Pete was rarely available to play, although after the end of the 2017 season he expressed an interest in playing again, on the promise that he wouldn’t be asked to bowl!! Unfortunately, 2017 proved to be the final season for Valiant as the team folded in 2018.

In 2005, Pete’s efforts helped Valiant to win the league, the second of only 2 times that Valiant won the league, and his contributions to the team both on and off the field were greatly appreciated every time he played.
