While our relationship had deteriorated, and there was much to be forgiven, I’m choosing to focus on the few positive memories I have of of my Dad.
I’ll always be grateful for the many years he took me to Wisconsin so I could get close to my extended family, many I am still close with today.
I’m also choosing to honor him as a human being, and not dwell on his actions which were undoubtedly influenced by his unshakable alcohol addiction.
Alcohol kept him from being a father and a grandfather. I’ve come to terms with this reality. Long ago incredible people stepped up to take his place.
Regardless of his decisions in life, the people who knew him should know of his passing. Deep down I do believe he cared for his family and friends. Rest in peace dad, your lifelong battle is over.
