I will always remember my Uncle Mac as a devoted caregiver, an adventurous traveler and an innovative teacher. May all the Paynes in heaven be celebrating Mac. Love to Joyce!

We at the Austin Civic Orchestra are all so very sorry and send our deepest condolences to Joyce and family. Mac was a treasure and a pillar of the orchestra's foundation. He was also a great friend and supporter and we will miss his kindness, his quiet strength, and his wonderful sense of humor. Much love ?

Mac was 'instrumental' as the founder of the Austin Civic Orchestra, and as a board member for decades, he helped to grow our orchestra to the level that we have achieved today. Always a regular in the audience, we'll miss him, his smile, and his encouragement. I had the honor to know him, work with him, and learn from him in my first role on a civic board. He was dedicated to making sure the orchestra was committed to reaching families, serving its musicians from all walks of life, and developing future talent through the Pearl Amster competition.
Mac once wrote in a letter recommending the ACO that the Orchestra was a jewel in the City of Austin's crown. Mac was a jewel in ours.
