Location: Sherman Oaks, California

Dorothy Dunn died peacefully on May 30, 2017 in Sherman Oaks, CA. She was 98. Dorothy was born on August 14, 1918 to Ethel (Utley) and Joseph Edmund Haigh in Barnsley, Yorkshire, UK. Dorothy trained as a baby’s nurse and accompanied the family she worked for to Argentina where she met and married Leslie Dunn in 1942. With the outbreak of WWII, she remained in Argentina until the war ended and then they immigrated to New York, New York, and then on to Mamaroneck, New York for the next 26 years. They retired to Ormond Beach, Florida. She was widowed in 1991 and moved to California.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Carol (Arnold) Kleiner of Los Angeles, CA and Edmund (Justine) of Mill Creek, WA. In addition she is missed by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Dorothy was known to a large network of family and friends as “Granny.” The nickname fit her perfectly. Her main goal was always that everyone around her be well cared for and happy. Dorothy had many distinguishing characteristics, but the most significant was her love of children. She was one of those rare individuals who could “light up a room” and always found a positive side to any adverse situation. She will be missed by all who came into contact with her.
A private memorial service is planned for immediate family. Memorial gifts may be made to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles–Boone Fetter Clinic.
