Lakewood—Juan Martinez, age 46, died Sunday, June 25, 2017, at his home in Lakewood, NJ.

Juan Martinez is survived by two children: Yaritza Martinez and Juan Gabriel Martinez. He also leaves behind his mother Ramonita Rivera, his sister Milagros I. Sims, and his granddaughter Jarielys S. Alvarez.

Juan is a US Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm, where he earned several medals, including the Kuwait Liberation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (2 stars) and a Combat Action Ribbon. He also earned a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (25 stars), a Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal, Certificate of Commendation and a Meritorious Unit Citation. He grew up in Carolina, Puerto Rico and came to the Unites States at the age of thirteen. During his junior year at Piscataway High School, Juan enlisted into the ROTC program, and that experience ignited his passion for serving his country. He had a kind heart, and his charisma was unforgettable. His compassion for others and willingness to forgive were among his more prominent traits. His kids, granddaughter, family, and close friends brought him joy. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and is probably trying to figure out how to Fed Ex his custom made domino table to heaven. Juancito will be missed by many and never forgotten.

Services will be held this Thursday at 7 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home, and he will be interred at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
