This memorial was created in honor of James Daniel "Dan" Shanahan of Troy, Michigan. Dan was born on November 19, 1938 in Detroit and passed peacefully on November 4, 2017. A devoted father, Dan was a regular supporter, and sometimes coach of countless hockey, track, cross country and martial arts events, never missing an opportunity to support his children, and later grandchildren in their endeavors. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all friends and family.
Dan is preceded in death by his father James, mother Marion, brother Jack, sisters Joanie, Marion, Rita, Gerry, Carol, and Mary Ellen, and daughter Erin.
He is survived by his brother Pat, sister Catherine, children James "J.D." (Diana)Shanahan, Patrice (Lee) Sartori, and Timothy (Laurie) Shanahan, and grandchildren Ryan, Lauren, Sydney, Rachel, Anna, Michael, Callan, and Willow.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 AM at the Congregation of St. Joseph's Nazareth center in Kalamazoo, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation do so via check sent to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 NE Monroe Ave, Grand Rapids MI 49505, in memory of James Daniel Shanahan.
