Obituary: Herman Edward Moss, great Cincinnati jazz pianist, passed away early Friday morning, Sept 9, at the age of 75. He was born in Huntington West Virginia on Nov. 21, 1940, where he grew up and attended Marshall University graduating with a degree in English Literature. He later went on to get a Master’s degree from Indiana Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. He got his final degree, a doctorate from University of Colorado in Greeley. He said he was a Doctor of Musicology. Here in Cincinnati, he opened several businesses over the years, starting with Love’s Coffee House on Calhoun Street in 1967. Later he opened The Occult Book which became The Golden Triangle Coffee House, Reality Food Mcrobiotic Food Store, then Emanon Bar and Restaurant, Mozart’s Ristorante, and his final Jazz Club “Jazz at Schwartz’s Point.” He is survived by daughters Julie Baldwin of Sacramento, CA, Melissa Moss, Zarleen Watts, Brianna Plott Bungard of Canton, OH, Aubrey Cauldwell; sons Eddie Sawyer of Cincinnati and Reuben Thomas of Lexington, KY; also survived by sister Becky Moss Ashby, nieces Leah Prather and Diane Martin of Daytona Florida.
