Sheila interviewed my partner, Marcus, and I, 8 years ago as prospective 1-1 tutors. Marcus is still a tutor while my time lasted c4 years until work made continuing impossible, latterly joining the Board.
Sheila said something at that first meeting which we both still say i.e. "do what you can". Do what you can, when it feels that the tuition is only a tiny pebble, for example when the child's home situation or needs makes the 1hr feel insubstantial. We often discuss Marcus' tutoring experience and "do what you can", but also more generally - a wise woman once said "do what you can". Tiny pebbles create ripples that can be never-ending in their reach and that is true of VTO and the work Sheila was so clearly committed to.
Sheila affected people's lives in small and large ways and I know she will be sorely missed. Without her, we'll continue to do what we can.
