Remembering John Royston Coleman
6/24/1921 - 9/6/2016

Location: Washington, District of Columbia

The family of John R. "Jack" Coleman invite you to leave reflections on a life of many callings that touched many people. For our far-flung friends and relatives, we hope this single place of reflection online will provide a place to come together, to share stories, and to remember a life well lived together.

There will be two gatherings to celebrate Dad's life on the weekend of October 1-2. You are warmly invited to join us for either or both. First, there will be a memorial meeting for worship at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 1 at the Friends Meeting of Washington here in DC, where Dad made his home and found the warm embrace of community in the final years of his long life. Second, on Sunday October 2 at 1:00 pm, there will be a celebration of his life on the campus of Haverford College, an institution he loved and that continues to love him right back.

If you inspired to give a gift in lieu of flowers, Jack's family ask that you give to Haverford College in support of off-campus service learning, a cause Jack valued and embodied. Please go to https://fords.haverford.edu/make-a-gift, leave the default designation setting as "unrestricted (greatest need)" and in the memo field specify "for service learning in memory of John R. Coleman." If we reach our goal by the end of the fiscal year, this will create a permanent endowment, administered by Haverford's Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, that will support at least one summer internship off-campus per year.

Our country is surely a better place and a more interesting one for Jack's long, full and exemplary life of service. He inspired us and we miss him. Harriet and I send our deepest sympathy to his family and other friends.
