William (Bill) Russell Harris Jr, 80, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, at his home in Dayton, Ohio on May 24, 2017. Bill was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1936, to the late William Russel Harris Sr. and Betty Mae Shelton Harris. He moved to Detroit, MI where he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a tank specialist.

Upon his honorable discharge Bill meet and married Willie Mae Smith and to their union was born five beautiful children, two in Detroit, MI, Darnell and Tonya and three in Dayton OH, Timothy, Kimberly, and Anthony. He later fathered another beautiful child JaVon, from a different union. Bill later found work in the automotive industry and worked for GM until his retirement.

During his retirement years, Bill moved back to Detroit, MI and enjoyed Motown music, fishing and finding deals. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. As his health started to fail Bill returned to Dayton OH to be surrounded by family and friends who cared for him.

In addition to his parents, Bill is proceeded in death by his wife Willie Mae (divorced), two sisters, Anna Deloris Harris -Tillery, and Carolyn Virginia Harris-Taylor, brother, Larry Harris and grandchild, Darell Harris.

Bill is survived by his four sons, Darnell Harris, Timothy (Deanna) Harris, Anthony (LaKendra) Harris, and JaVon (Tiana) Harris, two daughters, Tonya Harris and Kimberly (Jimmy) Hill, three brothers Donald (Ada) Harris of Detroit MI, Melvin (Cassandra) Harris of Hesperia CA, and Dennis (Cynthia) Harris of Ontario CA, one sister Toni (Woodie) Jones of Rialto CA, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a special niece Connie Harris.

Friends and family will be received 10-11 a.m. Thursday at The Potter’s House – Dayton International Ministries, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, with Pastor, Mark McGuire, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery
