Sheikh, Husna (Pirzada)
1936-2017

Husna (Pirzada) Sheikh aged 81, passed away on November 19, 2017 at her home in Blacklick, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. We are deeply moved by the outpouring of affection from so many. It is a testament to the life she lived, and the people she loved. She had an intense, unwavering will to give herself to those she loved and she had a gentle soul. She is already terribly missed.

She was born on July 23, 1936 in Old Sukkur, Pakistan, on the banks of the mighty river Indus. Her parents were Zulekha and Abdus Sattar Pirzada. She grew up in Old Sukkur and was the first woman in her extended conservative family to go to college. She went to Kinnaird College in Lahore, Pakistan and graduated B.A. with a major in Geography. There she excelled in sports, winning university medals in the 200 meters race and making lifelong friendships.

She married her husband Farrukh Sheikh in September 1962 who survives her. She is also survived by their three sons: Suleman "Sam" (Sobia), Asim "Sim" (Vicki) and Humayun "Mao". Husna was a beloved grandmother to Joey, Nick and Maria, whom she loved dearly.

Husna had three brothers (late) Abdul Hafeez Pirzada (Sadia), Abdul Ghafoor Pirzada (Zeenat), and Abdul Mujeeb Pirzada (Almas), all of Pakistan. In addition Husna adored her nieces and nephews - Shaziae, Haseeb, Sehr, Sattar, Mueed, Sadaf, Sobia, Khurram, Saman, Sara, Najeeb, Bukht, Tufail, Sohail and Uzma.

Forty four years ago, Husna migrated from Pakistan to Columbus, Ohio with her husband and three small sons, who could not speak English. She worked hard with them and eventually all graduated college. When the sons became teenagers, she reinvented herself by going to Columbus Technical Institute (now Columbus State) and obtained an Associate Degree in Computer Programming and briefly taught there.

Husna’s passions were her faith, her family, her friends who were like family and unquestioning love for her children and grandchildren. She was interested in Indian Classical music. She was an excellent and efficient cook and an expert seamstress.

According to Islamic tradition she was buried the same day she died, immediately following Salat al-Janazah prayers, in the Islamic Cemetery of Columbus, 3880 Sunbury Rd, Columbus, OH 43219. Soyum Koran reading will be held November 21st at Noor Islamic Cultural Center, 5001 Wilcox Rd, Dublin, OH 43016. A memorial service will be held to receive friends and celebrate Husna’s life on Sunday Dec. 17th from 2-4pm at Jefferson Country Club, 7271 Jefferson Meadows Dr, Blacklick, OH 43004.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to:
Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd, Columbus, OH 43215
