Mrs. Ruth Campbell was born October 11, 1921 in Dodson, Louisiana to Emie Craig and Harvey Allen. She has one sister Ocie Mae Terry who currently lives in Seattle, Washington.
She married Howard E. Campbell (Slim) on October 12, 1951. She was married for 36 years before her beloved husband died in 1987. They had one child, Jimmie Ruth Alexander who passed away in 1991. She has one granddaughter, Tonya Alexander and three great-grandsons, Donyea 26, Kolin Ivy 15, and Sir George, 9 years of age, and a great, great grand-daughter Kylee Alexander, age 8.
Mrs. Ruth attended Dodson Grade School and went on to attend Winfield High School in Dodson, Louisiana and she moved to Dayton in 1945.
Mrs. Ruth was an avid bingo player, one who played bingo for more than 60 years throughout the Dayton and surrounding areas. She also enjoyed playing pokeno and her favorite past time was to sit and play solitaire. Mrs. Ruth was a very outgoing and energetic individual who loved company. She enjoyed sitting with others, conversing and eating food. She and her special friend, Vivian Stephens, especially enjoyed anything that her Cousin Rena Jackson would prepare. Her favorite line after eating a good meal was, “It sure was good.” She also enjoyed going to Panera Bread with her cousin Cynthia Simmons for an afternoon lunch and spending time with her granddaughter, Tonya, and her great-grandchildren every opportunity that was available. Her last days were spent with her cousins and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Ruth loved being around all people. It did not matter where you lived or from what culture, she would sit and talk with you always making you feel welcomed in her life and if the opportunity presented itself, she just might spend the night in your home. She was a coin collector of wheat pennies as well as a stamp collector. In addition, Mrs. Ruth loved bus road trips to the casinos or overnight shopping excursions. Mrs. Ruth was always on the go and very difficult to find; she answered to no one and no answering machine could track her down. During the time of her medical emergency, she was at her favorite place, The Eastown Bingo Hall, playing B-I-N-G-O.
A special thank you to Gayle Moody for all of the planning and support regarding Mrs. Ruth and a special thanks to the guys at the Biltmore; Virgil, Reggie, Ray and thank you to all of those that had a special place in her heart, and those on the 4th Floor. Mrs. Ruth will be missed by all of those who loved her and the memories of her life will never be forgotten. Her advice for living long was to “live a clean life and to have fun!”

She leaves to cherish her memories of Tonya Alexander, Donyea Alexander, Kolin Alexander, Sir George Alexander, Kylee Alexander, Rena Jackson, Cynthia Simmons, Tony (Karen) Simmons; and a host of other relatives and friends.
