From: Melinda Angstrom (Guiding Eyes For The Blind)
Dear Ramona
We're very sorry to hear of your loss. The few times I spoke with your father, he was a warm engaging person who spoke so fondly of his time at Guiding Eyes. I caught him up on a lot of the changes that had happened over the years and of some of the staff he remembered. We had a great laugh when I was going over the archival photos with him and I commented on the huge sailfish that used to hang in the living room. The staff had always wondered what had happened to it. He laughed and said "that was mine! I took it with me!"
Guiding Eyes wouldn't be what it is today without dedicated instructors like Ray who helped build it's reputation as a world class Guide Dog School. We share your sorrow and know that Ray will always be remembered as one of our original core group of trainers. Thank you for the donations made in his name and if you are ever in our neighborhood, contact us, we would be happy to show you around.

Ray was, and will always be in our memories, a great man.

Sure, he wasn't a celebrity, nor rich, nor powerful.

No, he was "ordinary" in those ways like most of us in life.

But he was great because he used his toolbox best a person could and didn't hesitate to sacrifice for family, friends, community, and country.

He was a humble, good, and just man. And people who really knew him really really loved him for all the right reasons.

And we'll always be glad to have known him and will miss him.

And though the World will turn without him, some of us will find it a less warm and comforting without Ray in it.

These things in the final analysis are the marks of a great person. Ray was a great person.
