The only way that I know David is through my son, Marcus who had the pleasure of knowing him and serving with him. When I heard about Marcus loosing him friend I grieved as if I had lost mine.I just wanted you to know that I have kept you, David's family and friends in constant prayer. I prayer that God will supply you with an incredible sense of peace that only he can give in such difficult times. I understand David was loved by many and may that memory never be forgotten. I know that I will never forget him just by what Marcus had written about David. If I could I would thank David for serving our country and giving his precious life for it. Not many know of the HUGE sacrifice young men and women give for it. Long live the memory of precious David.

In the brief time I had getting to know Dave I was immediately impressed by who he was. He was one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, he had a true passion for life and adventure. He was loyal, dedicated, kind and compassionate. He was the person everyone liked and wanted to be around. My first conversation with him was one of the best I've ever had after first meeting someone, and is a conversation I will never forget.

Thank you for your service Sergeant David Roten, to you I am forever grateful. My heart and thoughts go out to your family and loved ones. Rest peacefully, Dave - you are dearly missed by many.

I only spent 4 days with Dave a little over a year ago at a wedding but he left a lasting positive impression, by the second day together it was no longer a handshake greeting but a big bear hug! His character was instantly genuine, sincere and positive. I loved the way that he looked at little Liam when he held him. He was a truly remarkable Son, Friend, Team mate, Patriot. RIP Achilles

Dave was truly an amazing human being. He was the guy that everyone liked having around. He was honest, loyal, caring and could make you laugh no matter what situation you found yourself in. He would give you the shirt off his back or the keys to his casita if you needed to get away. You don't meet many people like him and when you do you try to keep them around you all the time. I'll never have a friend like "Dangerous" Dave ever again. Dave loved life to fullest and was always seeking new adventures and challenges whether it was climbing Aconcagua in Argentina or catching waves in Central America. He lived everyday to the fullest and with passion. He served his country with honor and distinction. Dave was as brave as they come and will be incredibly missed. Until we regroup I miss you so incredibly much. My thoughts and prayers to your family during this incredibly hard time.

Dave brings strength and laughter to the people around him. To many of us, he is known as, "Achilles." He walks with a warrior's spirit and a heart of gold full of kindness and love. Loyalty, integrity, and fortitude are three qualities rarely found in one person. You might find one or two, but rarely all three. Achilles has them all. He is respected by everyone he meets and his personality and love for life is addictive. He has touched so many lives and inspired many of us to be the best we can and to live every day better than the last. There's that saying, "dare to dream." Most only dream, but Achilles chose to live his dreams. His heart is heart is full and his soul searching for the next challenge. He is our friend and our brother, one of the elite of all Green Berets, a patriot, a warrior, and most of all an American soldier. He gave his life living the life he wanted to live and he fell on his feet with his weapon in hand. He fought for Liberty and the perseverance of the beliefs of this great nation. His memory will live on in our hearts and he will always stand by our side for the rest of our days. As we will stand by his by honoring him with full hearts and peaceful souls.

I miss you my brother. We'll see each other again.

From a good friend "Dave’s authenticity was easy to recognize within minutes of meeting him. He carried himself in a manner that was easy to respect. He wasn’t boastful. He had a unique gift of being respected and well liked across the board. Not an easy task when you operate with alpha males from different services and different levels of experience, but it was true. You won’t find a man who had the honor of serving with Dave that would have one bad thing to say about him and that is extraordinary. Much like his life. I cannot be disputed that David Roten will live on as a legend among men who take extreme action to protect our great nation and that legend will be as authentic as David was genuine"
