I thought of you last night, Harriet, and decided to call to thank you for your empathy, intelligence and kindness when I stayed at The Sanctuary. But the numbers were disconnected and so I did a search on my Iphone while driving, and you had gone...you lived a wonderful, original life.

Harriet was my dearest friend during a difficult, complicated time in my life and I loved her then, and for all the years that followed, even as life prevented more than occasional visits. She gave me a whole different perspective on how to live. Faith in a better future, optimism in each new day, and reliance on my own ability to make my dreams come true. She taught me to laugh at myself. And she showed me what real compassion was. I watched her help all those she could and share her spirit with everyone who came near. Today, as I work with those who are less fortunate, each time I offer a hand, I think of her. Rest in peace, dear friend.
