Mike's mom went to be with the Lord on Sunday. Her mental illness was her biggest struggle and Rob, Mike and Brian all had to endure so much! I truly appreciate the man Mike has become and the fact that she is now with Jesus. Thanks for all your concerns and prayers during this difficult time.

This past Sunday, Brian's mom passed away. She is now seeing Jesus face-to-face and is free from the bondage of mental illness. Our hearts are sad, relieved and hopeful all at the same time.

Lynn endured 15+ years of mental illness (all the while Brian's dad cared for her so faithfully), and yet she still clung to her faith in the Lord. I wish I had a chance to truly get to know Lynn, but it's been a tremendous blessing to hear so many share how she had touched their lives by her love for music, children and the Lord.

I will never forget the time that our family had singing hymns and reading Scripture to her.

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." –Romans 8:18

On Sunday evening my mom passed from this life and was received into the presence of our Savior. She suffered from debilitating mental illness for over 15 years and we suffered alongside her, none more so than my dad. I don't know whether he comprehended the weight of the vows he took at age 20. "For better, for worse...in sickness and in health." Those vows were tested and he loved and cherished his beloved wife until they were parted by death. Along with his unwavering faith in Christ, there is no better example he could set for my brother and me.

My mom gave everything she had to her family. She often worked 2nd shift as a nurse's aid to help provide for her family while still being home with her boys during the day. If she wasn't working, there was a decent chance I had her outside pitching baseballs to me well past dusk. I am grateful to have had a mother whose love remained constant despite my faults as a son (see especially teen years).

I won't call it a "benefit," but a grace I have received in the midst of my mom's trial is that many people have felt compelled to share the impact she had on their lives or their thankfulness for how she taught and cared for their children over the years. I don't know that I would have ever been aware if it were not for the trial. For this, for the prayers, for the words of encouragement and comfort, I am truly grateful.

Most of all, I am comforted with the knowledge that her mental suffering has been eclipsed with the incomparable glory and joy of a clarity of mind to delight in the presence of the Lord. We wait only for the assurance of the resurrection when her body will possess an equal glory. And so, "I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me." –Psalm 13:6

John 11:25

My mom went to be with the Lord tonight. I am saddened by her passing but i take hope in knowing that though her earthly body has died, she has been made new and will suffer no more. It has been difficult to see her struggle for so long but we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. I feel so blessed to have had a mother who loved me and cared for me so much. I know we will see each other again. Praise the Lord!

A special thanks to Jenna Hand for helping me through this time.
