This came as dismal news - I have known Rob professionally for many years, and dealt with him extensively. He was always the consummate professional, very conscientious in arriving at the correct position on any matter and scrupulously fair. He was tremendously successful in making the transition from underwriting to broking where he became a fierce and tireless advocate for the policy holder while always upholding correct principles. I had been very concerned about his health because he sounded terribly ill in recent conversations but I did not want to probe - now I wish that I had, and might somehow have offered moral support. A session with Rob at the Palace Café was an essential stop on any trip to New Orleans. I will miss him.

I first met Rob in Baltimore when he was coaching our kids, Betsy and Mike, at the local YMCA. The energy and dedication that he brought to that position let me recommend him to Roger Sherman, our Baltimore Claims Manager when we had an opening for a trainee. You should have seen the look on Roger’s face when I told him Rob was coaching our kids in swimming. Of course, I didn’t tell him that Rob had a business degree from Towson State University. After interviewing Rob, Roger made his independent decision to hire him as a claims trainee, and anyone who knew Roger knew all his decisions were independent. While Roger was a task manager, he demanded and received great work from both Rob and Steve Maisenhalder who became good friends. Roger provided the technical foundation that paired with Rob’s work ethic helped propel him to a well respected and successful career in marine claims management. My wife Sue and I visited Rob and Teri at the local hospital to celebrate the arrival of Heather, who was thereafter followed by Brooke. One Saturday afternoon I was cutting the grass when Sue brought me the phone and said it was Rob on the other end. He was accepting a job offer and leaving MOAC. He was really conflicted as he always wanted to end his career where it started, with MOAC. He was very emotional and maybe had a tear or two in his eyes. He just didn’t want to leave. I don’t think he called to get my permission to leave or to talk him out of it, but rather I felt he did it out of respect. He decided the time wasn’t right to leave MOAC. When Katrina closed the local office Rob knew the MOAC claims service was needed now more than ever. He turned his home in Slidell into a temporary claims office for him and several other adjusters. They never missed a beat and the Chairman and President of CNA both acknowledged Rob’s professionalism and dedication. They presented him with towels inscribed with “Winn’s B&B” at a national meeting. I will always remember his love of family, his dedication to his profession and his loyalty to MOAC. I miss him already.

As all posting know here, Rob was one of a kind. I had the pleasure of working with him regularly after he joined Gallagher. He was intense, insightful, and very knowledgeable. Most importantly, you could absolutely count on Rob to actually listen to what you were saying because he was interested in others thoughts, positions and ideas, a very rare talent these days. As an added bonus, he enjoyed having a good time. I'll miss the jokes, ribbing and late night talks. All the best to you and yours Rob.

Rob , All who knew you can attest to your friendly smile, strong work ethic, sincerity, honestly and straight forwardness. In all my dealings with you were willing to listen to the other side and always dealt fairly with everyone. I enjoyed working with you, and for you, over the last 25 plus years, and I will miss having lunch with you to discuss maritime insurance. May you have fair winds and trailing seas on you journey my friend.

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Rob since he became the claim Manager for MOAC. He was one of those rare individuals who gave you all the time you needed to present your version of the facts which he did not always agree with. However, he always had a way of resolving any problems that arose and made you feel good about it. He always spoke about his daughters and was dedicated to his family. He, by far, was one of the most knowledgeable individual's I have had the pleasure of working with in the Marine industry. My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his family, and everyone who knew and worked with him.

I've had the privilege of working closely with Rob over the past 10 years and can't say that I've ever met a harder working, more dedicated individual in my lifetime. Notwithstanding, Rob would always find a way to make time to answer questions, help others and share his wealth of knowledge regarding marine claims. He was a gentleman, a leader, a loving caring father and most of all, a true friend. I will always remember Rob for sharing his wisdom, for all of the laughs, and frankly because no one did more for me and my career than Rob. My deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family, friends and other co-workers. He was way too young to leave us and will be sorely missed.

I was stunned and deeply sadden when I heard that Rob had passed away . A great loss to the marine insurance industry , but most importantly the loss of a wonderful person and good friend . I have known Rob for at least 25 years , and took him for a tour aboard the first special purpose oilfield vessel he had ever seen ... and were friends ever since . He was a great sounding board when I needed one , and I always could count on him for sound and unvarnished advice . When in Orange Beach each year for our Marine Symposium I relied upon Rob's insight "... you know , I think it's time to go back to the house ." I will miss Rob and his great friendship, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends .

You couldn’t find a harder working person who truly loved his job and the people he worked with. No matter how busy Rob was, he always took the time to ask about you. Upon entering his office, I would start asking a question and he would hold up his hand and say “We’ll get to that in a minute. How are you? How’s the kids? How’s your Mom; please tell her I said HI”. We’d sit and chat for a while about life and loved ones as if he had all the time in the world before finally turning to business. One of the benefits of sitting near the kitchen in the office (i.e. next to the coffee pot) was that I saw Rob a lot! He loved his coffee. Most mornings, he’d pass me and say, “Kristen, don’t go judging me on how many times I come back”. I promised I wouldn’t. Each time he came around we’d ceremoniously smile and nod at each other and he’d say, “last one”, but I knew it wouldn’t be. I have a million more Rob-isms that will now be happy memories. I’m so grateful to have known him and worked with him for the past ten years. He will be forever missed.

So sorry to hear of Rob's passing last week, he will be missed by all. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him over the last 5 years and managed to spend quality time with him both in the UK and on countless visits to New Orleans over a beer or two. Rob was a man who worked tirelessly for his clients and it was a privilege to see him in action around the negotiating table fighting tooth and nail for them. It is safe to say there are few Underwriters out there to have EVER got the better of him in a claims negotiation! We've lost not only an exceptional colleague but a great man and a friend. My thoughts go out to all his friends and family

So sorry and saddened to hear of Rob's passing. He was an absolute colossus within the marine claims fraternity both in US and here in UK and will be much missed by all. I was only talking to him a few weeks ago and he was his usual polite, affable and grateful self. He will leave a huge hole and his will be very large shoes to fill indeed. We've lost not just a wealth of un-rivalled marine claims knowledge but an ally, huge supporter of ours over here but, most importantly, a friend. My sincere condolences go out to his work colleagues, friends and family at the difficult time.

I was very saddened to hear of Robs passing I have worked with Rob for a number of years being one of-his contacts at AJG London. Over the years I have spoken with Rob on an almost daily basis and valued his expertise I also like to think that over the years we became friends as our conversations would never be just related to work. During my trips to NOLA Rob was always welcoming and we would meet up for lunch dinner and sometimes just a few drinks (normally a JD or two ) I was always happy to reciprocate Robs hospitality during his London visits And have fond memories of my 50th birthday when Rob was in London and joined me in my celebrations. It is strange to think we will never talk again

Over the past two plus years, Rob and I became close fiends/colleagues as we worked closely together in our new roles in Gallagher. We spoke almost daily on work, family and life! Rob always would call me early in the morning around 7:15 eastern time (6:15 his time) to begin our days. I tried to pay him back on Saturday calls to see how the week went. As we shared many personal and work views - we provided support for each other. He was my brother! I will miss you Rob but I will never forget how you touched my life. My prayers to your family with special thoughts to your daughters who we spoke often as father of daughters do.

I first met Rob when he was in his mid-20s in Baltimore. The MOAC claims adjusters in Baltimore were trained militarily by Roger Sherman. The office produced three outstanding marine claims adjusters, and Rob was one of them. I last saw him on the East Coast when he was in Atlanta. Rob was sent to New Orleans to audit an account. I think it was Lykes Lines. His work was impressive, and he soon settled there. In New Orleans, Rob helped me with some of their big claims. He did very well and took some management positions at MOAC. I think he loved MOAC so much that his LinkedIn profile still shows MOAC. Who would not love MOAC? I met Rob several times in New Orleans, and I could see that he was enjoying New Orleans and proud of his associations and care of his customers, such as Ingram. He had a lot of energy and was full of life. It was nice of Rob to meet me as a friend in his beautiful town. I will miss this young man who had so much potential. I am praying for his family’s loss.

Rob always took the time to listen. He was a kind and caring soul, and he worked towards making anything you needed work. Even when he didn’t know how he would get something done, he told you he would make it happen. His enthusiasm for his work and his team was infectious. He cared deeply for those he worked with. ...You will be missed by so many, Rob. It is never easy to say goodbye to someone, especially when they were as special as you... My prayers are with his friends, family, and co-workers. Rob would want us to celebrate his life and remember the good times.

Rob was a consummate professional in every business interaction we ever had. No business discussion ever took place however, without Rob asking "and how are you doing?" He genuinely cared about the welfare of the people who worked with him. He always had a big smile when I asked him about his daughters and how they were doing. Rob had a great sense of humor and was one of the good guys. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Rob's family, friends, and co-workers. Godspeed my friend.

The picture I shared of Rob with the pint brings back sweet memories. It was a beautiful Sunday in London and we had a couple of pints at the Grenadier along with Jeff Gieseler before heading to the Farm Street Church in London for mass followed by dinner that evening. Rob was the perfect business travel companion. He was the best at his job and always so easy to get along with. He never had a restaurant or hotel preference, anything was fine. He never had a starter he wanted or a particular bottle of wine, anything was fine. His humor will be missed. Rob was sharp witted and loved to laugh. I will miss you my friend.
