I was Manny’s (Sr. Office Coordinator her at Mission College 6 ½ years) Manny had a calmness and warmness about him that’s rare in people these days. I recall him always leaving me voicemails to post absence signs – which any faculty here would know about. When I found out about his condition and as we were talking I remember saying I’m going to be praying for you, and I shared at that moment a few encouraging words, and he smiled. Then I remembered catching him again in passing in the faculty parking lot and there was this light blue or turquoise colored old school car, and I was like nice car and he shared with me that he was into classic cars. He carried himself well and always the same. It was a pleasure to work with him and I’m glad I had the opportunity to know him more.

I recall during a bar-b-que by the pool, Manny wanted to know, why did women buy green bananas at the supermarket, thinking they were fresher? We thought maybe too many Margaritas. Pat and Richard

Manny is clear in my mind though I met him in the 1980s at his home while visiting Linda. My husband and son and I visited two or three times during the years we lived in Glendale, CA. I remember Manny as a warm, caring person. He was a good host, relaxed and amiable. I remember eating paella with the family; a special dish Linda had cooked. I felt very happy and at home when visiting. Manny's big heart lit up the house in a quiet way, like background lighting that makes one feel comfortable. It is not everyone that leaves such a lasting impression from a few visits.
