Seeing Stan's memory of the vocal trio that they performed reminded me of the rehearsal of the song they sang. Don't remember the name of the song but I can remember everyone getting tickled over the words "mercy's door is still ajar" and everytime they came to that in the song they couldn't get through it without laughing. They made it through the actual performance without any problem. Visiting Aunt Mary Ruth and Uncle Elwyn was always fun and entertaining. I also remember visiting them and going to the Free Methodist campground and listening to Leo Thornton, President of Western Evangelical Seminary who was evangelist. Dad was so impressed with him that he recommended him to our pastor to have him come to McPherson. He came to McPherson in the fall of 1973 for revival services but unfortunately Dad never got to hear him preach having died in March of '73. But it did influence my life as I gave my heart to the Lord during those revival services. So in some small way Mary Ruth(and Dad and Mom) was influential in my becoming a Christian.Seeing the picture with all the Crown siblings and Grandpa and Grandma reminds me of what a wonderful Christian heritage we have had. Nephew Stan here. Such blessed memories of Aunt Mary Ruth. She was part of so many firsts in my life: first trip to an ocean beach, first visit to Disneyland, first airline flight by myself (when she kept the Christmas dinner warm while my weather-rerouted trip delayed my arrival in So Cal), and my first and only mixed vocal trio performance (with Ron and Aunt Mary Ruth) at Redlands Free Methodist Church (when a fly crawling across our hymnal challenged our decorum). She and Elwyn were always such hospitable hosts, introducing me to such delicacies as homemade strawberry jam and oatmeal with apples. Always looked forward to seeing her, and will always remember her well.
