In the early 60's, Bev found herself stationed at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee. After discovering that fireworks were legal there ( they weren't in her native Massachusetts ), she bought a fair amount of them and stashed them in her footlocker.
The next morning, on the bulletin board in the barracks was a note that stated "Notice ! Possession of fireworks and/or other unauthorized explosives on military bases is forbidden, and punishable by time in the brig and/or loss of rank !" In a panic, she decided she had to get rid of them. She found a box, put all of them in there, and mailed them off to her younger brother back in Massachusetts.
The very next morning, there was another note on the barracks bulletin board. "Notice ! Sending fireworks or other explosives through the US Mail is a Federal crime. punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and fines up to $50,000 !".
My uncle had the best Fourth of July ever.
